There are two main ways to communicate with your students directly from within Moodle. Quickmail saves a copy of emails you've sent and has various useful options. It's good for information that needs to go out but may not need to be referred to later by students (e.g. class cancellations, reminders). The Announcements forum also sends emails of your posts to each student. It is more useful when information that may need to be referred to later is included (e.g. important dates, updates to syllabus), as the posts remain in the forum. Only teachers/instructors can post.
